Diagnostic Chest MRI Scan

Maximise Your Chances of a Full Recovery

Your body does a significant amount of its respiratory work in the chest. Don't ignore it if you’re experiencing long-term pain or discomfort in that area. Early detection and treatment of any condition are key to maximising your chances of a full recovery.

Get diagnosed as soon as possible through Vista Health. We require a referral letter from a GP or consultant, and you can schedule your appointment to be as early as tomorrow. You’ll quickly receive a diagnostic report, allowing your physician to prescribe an effective treatment.

When do you need a Chest MRI?

Your doctor may order a chest MRI if your symptoms are severe or if the cause is difficult to ascertain with other diagnostic tools. Consider getting one if you’re experiencing sharp pain when you breathe, a constant tightness in your chest or any other abnormalities.

What a Chest MRI Scan Detects

Using a strong magnetic field and radio waves, an MRI scanner will take detailed, cross-sectional images of the inside of your chest cavity. The body parts you will see in these images include the following:

  • Thymus gland
  • Oesophagus
  • Trachea
  • Thoracic diaphragm
  • Other soft tissues
  • Chest wall (skin, fat, muscles and bones)

By examining the images, your radiologist will be able to determine if there is any damage or abnormal growths present. You may be diagnosed with any of the following conditions:

  • Tumours (size and degree of spread)
  • Organ diseases
  • Injuries

With a detailed diagnostic report, your physician will be able to determine the best course of action for your treatment.

How To Prepare For Your MRI Scan

The preparation required for a chest MRI scan is minimal. There are usually no restrictions on what you can eat or the medication you can take. At most, you will have to inform your radiologist of your medical history. This is so they can ensure your safety.

We will need to know if you have any of the following conditions or implants:

  • Allergy to MRI contrast material
  • Pregnancy
  • Claustrophobia
  • Artificial joints
  • Artificial heart valves
  • Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD)
  • Pacemaker
  • Cochlear implants

Suppose your radiologist judges the procedure as unsafe for you due to any of these conditions and implants listed above. In that case, they may take extra precautions or recommend a different diagnostic examination.
