Diagnostic Small Bowel MRI Scan

Affordable and Accessible

If you’re suffering from a severe gastrointestinal disease, you’re likely having difficulty going about your day. Ideally, you want to get treated as soon as possible so you can get rid of the constant discomfort and interruptions to your activities. But you need a diagnosis first.

Easily get a small bowel MRI scan and diagnostic report through Vista Health. You can choose to self-pay and have your appointment scheduled as early as tomorrow, all for a competitive price. You’ll be able to get a diagnosis earlier so you can get treated sooner.

When Do You Need a Small Bowel MRI?

You may want to schedule a small bowel MRI scan if you’re experiencing any of the following issues:

  • Diarrhoea
  • Constipation
  • Gas
  • Vomiting
  • Swollen, painful belly
  • Blood in stool
  • Sudden weight loss

In addition to diagnosing your condition, your doctor may also order a small bowel MRI scan to monitor your treatment progress.

What a Small Bowel MRI Scan Detects

An MRI scanner uses strong magnets and radio waves to take images of cross-sections of your small bowel. It will show all three parts: the duodenum, jejunum and ileum. The images will also show your radiologist if there is any damage or abnormal growths present.

Based on the findings, you may be diagnosed with any of the following small bowel disorders:

  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Functional gastrointestinal disorders
  • Antibiotic-associated diarrhoea
  • Obscure bleeding
  • Malabsorption (difficulty digesting or absorbing nutrients)
  • Crohn’s disease of the ileum
  • Regional enteritis
  • Iron deficiency anaemia
  • Celiac disease
  • Gluten disorders

Once your radiologist identifies the cause of your symptoms, you can take the diagnostic report to a doctor. The report will allow your doctor to prescribe an effective treatment.

How To Prepare For Your MRI Scan

In some cases, patients are asked to fast before the procedure, but this is rare. You will likely have no restrictions on food and medication apart from those dictated by your doctor.

Your radiologist also needs to know if you have any implants or conditions that could make the procedure unsafe for you. These include:

  • Artificial joints
  • Artificial heart valves
  • Pacemaker
  • Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD)
  • Cochlear implants
  • Pregnancy
  • Claustrophobia
  • Allergy to MRI contrast material

Your radiologist may recommend a different diagnostic exam if they judge MRI scans to be unsafe for you.
