Don't leave until it's too late

Whilst all of us seem to be contemplating these awful restrictive times, we must always acknowledge that there are still over 10 million people who die of cancer every year.

It’s easy to carry on your normal life, presuming that every day that you feel reasonably healthy and content. But cancer is an unseen danger lurking in your body and then rearing its ugly head without warning.  Alarmingly can completely catch you out and subsequently cause great stress and worry to you, your family and your friends.

Prevention is better than cure

This year, World Cancer Day is focussing in on the fact that 'prevention is better than cure, to act now, to create a future without cancer'.

These meaningful sentiments need to be taken very seriously, as we all know cancer can kill.  It’s easy to ignore all the warning signals but by diagnosing the disease early and taking preventative action, the outcome is likely to be more positive.

Don’t let your yourself become a statistic, don’t become a victim of cancer. Follow World Cancer Day’s advice and use this time to act – and to act NOW!

Discuss it with your family

It’s important that you don’t take action on your own, you're not in this alone. Don’t be afraid to discuss it with your close family, or good friends as they will want to be with you and support you on this journey.  Tell them why you are concerned, and how and why you need to take action early to help prevent the onslaught of cancer.  If you do not have any one to talk to, then contact one of the many cancer charities that are out there.

Consider all the available options

If you think that you may have cancer (see the NHS website for signs and symptoms) it's important that you speak to your GP so they can investigate.  Symptoms are often caused by other, non-cancerous illnesses, but finding cancer early means it's easier to treat.

For peace of mind and reassurance for you and your family then you could book a CT scan or a PET-CT Scan which combines 2 diagnostic tests in one procedure.  A CT scan is a painless, non-invasive procedure which uses specialised X-ray equipment to scan for inflammation, disease, cancer or other health conditions.

The benefits of a CT Scan

The advantages of a CT scan are that it can help detect the size, location, and shape of a tumour.  This will enable the consultant to specify the correct treatment for a cancer. CT scans also remove the need for exploratory surgeries, reducing stress and discomfort for the patient, as well as saving valuable time.
