Cheryl, who has severe claustrophobia, recently undertook her second attempt at a Cervical Spine MRI scan in October. Her prior experience had been distressing due to her intense anxiety and inability to manage the scan in the enclosed doughnut-shaped magnet.
Arriving early at the Upright MRI's London Fitzrovia Centre, Cheryl was greeted warmly at the reception and introduced to Chris Paul, the radiographer, who immediately put her at ease.
The well-lit and pristine centre fostered a friendly atmosphere, allowing her to interact comfortably with other patients and accompanying individuals.
During her appointment, Cheryl appreciated the calming environment with its cool air conditioning and large, brightly lit images adorning the walls. The radiographer's thorough explanation of the procedure and scanner itself also provided reassurance.
‘’The Upright MRI scanner was an absolutely amazing experience. I had joked that all that was needed in the room was a screen and some popcorn to which he replied by pointing to a TV screen behind me!’’
"The experience for me was the best I have ever had. This scanner is nothing short of awesome. It was much quieter than any other I had previously been scanned by. Once the process had been explained, it was so stress-free that the procedure even had a 'Meditative' effect, causing me to doze off for a while!"
Cheryl found the entire process to be surprisingly pleasant. She was particularly moved by the warmth and care exhibited by the staff, transforming a previously traumatic experience into a positive one.
